Apprenticeship Training

Apprenticeship Training

A14 Training Services is working in partnerships with various providers and can support young people in their apprenticeship within the Logistics and related industries.

What are Apprenticeships?

As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job, usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognized qualifications. Anyone living in England, over 16 years-old and not in full-time education can apply.

Within the Logistics Sector, A14 Training offers frameworks in Warehouse, Traffic Office and/or Driving Goods Vehicles and can also offer Health & Social Care, Business Administration, Customer Service, IT Application Specialist and Management or Team Leader.

What do you get paid?

The minimum salary is £2.65 per hour, however, as employees many apprentices earn significantly more.

Who are they for?

Apprenticeships are open to all age groups above 16 years-old whether you are just leaving school, have been working for years or are seeking to start a new career. You just need to be living in England and not taking part in full-time education.

Apprenticeships are designed with the help of the employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to do a job well. There may be additional specific training courses (eg Fork Lift licence) where your employer will add this to the framework. There are targets and checks to make sure that your employer is supporting you and you are making progress.

As an employee you will be in employment for most of your time as most training takes place on the job. You also have visits from your assessor to help you gain your qualification and this can involve training at a local training Centre or away from your working environment.

Your employment will be for at least 30 hours per week.

Apprenticeships are increasingly recognised as the gold standard for work-based training.

There are two main levels:  Intermediate Level Apprenticeships - Level 2 and Advanced Level Apprenticeships - Level 3.

Apprentices work towards work-based learning qualifications at the relevant Level Competence Qualification, Functional Skills and, in some cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification.

All Apprenticeships must include the following elements:

a)   A competencies qualification which must be achieved by the apprentice to qualify for an Apprenticeship certificate.  This is the qualification which is required to demonstrate competence in performing the skill, trade or occupation to which the framework relates

b)   Functional Skills (e.g. Maths ,English and/or ICT) qualifications or a GCSE at Grade A-C.

Some sectors require a knowledge element and this is called the Technical Certificate.  This certificate shows knowledge and understanding of theoretical concepts, knowledge and understanding of the industry and its market relevant to the skill, trade or occupation to which the framework relates.
